I’ve been wondering whether it’s best to use your own name for your company when freelancing, or use a “branded” approach instead. I know some of you use your own name for your business and would like to hear your experience with it when promoting yourself.
Would really appreciate your insights.

I use my name Paul Wilson. My website says Paul Wilson Learning & Design but I consider the Learning & Design part like a tag line. The rationale is that it would cost me something to do a name search and something else to register a name where I’m from. It costs me nothing to be a sole proprietor under my own name. The only issue is that I need to remind clients to make the checks out to just my name and not to Paul Wilson Learning & Design.
