Hi all. I have a field trainer that is capturing screen shots and video of our software and making a course in Captivate 2019. She has her story size set for 1620 x 992 because the software and images she is filming are 1595 x 785. (bottom border left for closed captioning). She is using a remote connection to our server as that is the way it is done and says the remote window cannot be resized.
When we publish we use Scalable HTML5 and it resizes to our desktop monitors or to our laptop monitors just fine (108op). We are not using fluid boxes as our software must be viewed on a computer monitor.
I was always under the impression we should use standard resolutions for eLearning, like 1280 x 768 etc. Does it matter anymore? I did resize one of her projects after the fact to 1280 x 768 and outside of some images that needed to be made smaller, the software appeared clear – not blurry (I too published in scalabel HTML5).

One more question please – should I maintain the 16:9 aspect ratio which would make out projects 1774 x 992? Do we need to do that? The 1620 x 992 is an odd ball size?
If the total size (including TOC and/or playbar, and pixels needed by browser/LMS) has a 16:9 ratio, and you publish to Scalable HTML5, the project will fill the browser window. If not it will rescale so that one of the dimensions fits, either height or width.

Downscaling will rarely lead to blurry text, it is upscaling that could cause problems.
Thank you. I just checked for blurry text but switching from Arial to Calibri seems a lot cleaner. We will stay with the 1620 x 992. I even switched my laptop resolution to 1366 x 768 and with scalable HTML the published 1620 output resized perfectly without scrolling and looked pretty good.
Careful: Calibri is NOT a websafe font, Arial was. As long as you are sure that the learners have Calibri installed, no problem.
Ideal situation is always to have exactly the same size of images as you view it in the course. With Rescalable HTML5 output this may seem to be not so urgent anymore, but depending on the content many developers still complain about blurriness in text. If you don’t see that (depends also on used fonts) it is OK not to keep to the older fixed resolutions. Rescalable is only available for HTML5 output, not for SWF output.
I think the most important is to choose a good width/height ratio, to fill the browser window as much as possible.
