Displaying clear Images when hotspot clicked in VR project
Hey all,
I am working on a VR project (latest version of Captivate and using Oculus Go) and having some issues.
I would like to have both text and an image in a single hotspot instead of separate ones, to achieve this I tried the following:
- Adding a Text Hotspot and then I realised that basic HTML could be added, however when I try to add an image alongside the text, it just shows a blank box where the image should appear. I assume Adobe has set this up so when it goes through JS it will not read the text/image and only text inputs. So I scrapped this idea.
- Next, I tried two hotspots, text and image however this really didn’t work as confused users why they need to click one for an image and then one for text relating to the image. So I scrapped this idea.
- Finally, I thought the only way would be to include the text within an image (infographic style) and then I could show my graphical content and text in one hotspot and in principle this works. However I have two issues/concerns, firstly accessibility isn’t great for this approach but not sure how I could improve it. Also, I am trying to work out the best image size to use to ensure text clarity and without overloading the user with a huge image when they click the hotspot. I have tried various image sizes and it appears that Adobe has setup within its JS/CSS a percentage image size based on the screen which I think significantly too large and when I upload a small image it pixelates (screenshot attached – the left image is far too large in VR, middle is ok size in VR but pixelates and right is too small and pixelates)
Has anyone edited the percentage sizing referenced in point 3 before or can anyone offer any guidance on a different method as at the moment the limitation of this system is generating headaches for me?
Please note that the screenshot includes content for testing purposes only and I have no copyright of the content included.
Look forward to any thoughts.
Thanks,
Sam

Combination of text and image is possible (see my blog) when using a shape. However how to make text readable needs the ability to take it out of the VR environment, think that is the real problem. I also wonder whether a course to be watched with goggles is very efficient if there is lot of text. Just a personal reflection.
Hi Lieve,
I think your reflection is understandable and I agree. I haven’t started course/content development yet however just wanted to test what I may be asked to consider in the future.
Definitely, a real problem and something to work on in the future.
Thanks,
Sam
Very wise approach, totally understandable. I always try out new features, and often search for workarounds to overcome some limitations. But I am also very realistic: will not put too much time in features which will be at this moment only used sparingly for multiple reasons. Suspect this will change slowly in the future however. My colleagues at the university college often told me that I should return in …. 20 years
Wonder if you read my post with some tips for VR slides? Beware: was written for the first version where you didn’t have the close button yet.
It is indeed a challenge to show clear images from the hotspots. Of course the approach I mostly use as a workaround is not possible if you want to watch with goggles, I combine 360 slides with normal slides in a cptx-project, not a VR project.
Hi Lieve,
Thank you for your response, yeah I read this article before posting.
Yeah, I thought about your workaround but as you say it’s not suitable for me as we want to use a headset.
I will keep researching/experimenting with this and report back anything I find out.
Hopefully, this is something Adobe could include in future updates (controlling image sizing and quality and ability to combine text/image into one hotspot)
Thanks,
Sam
